Random Thoughts- Ohio State's talent shines through. The rest of the Big 10 seems to have some big holes. - I do like Penn State's defense though. Their defense backs came to play and they could cause issues with their pass rush. - Michigan State looked pretty decent too. - The Indiana love fest from last year was disrupted by Iowa. - After Hurricane Ida displaced Tulane, which was supposed to host arguably its biggest-ever game against the Sooners in New Orleans, OU painted the Green Wave's logo on Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium's surface. Which was kind of cool. - Oklahoma probably shouldn't have let Tulane get that close though. - Alabama doing Alabama things. It doesn't matter how many guys go Pro, another 4 or 5 star recruit plugs in and they are off to the races again. They were in midseason form by the middle of the game. - LSU head coach Ed Orgeron talked smack about the UCLA team colors, and then the Bruins took LSU to the woodshed. LSU didn't just lose, they got beat up. - Texas A&M impressed. A&M is likely to face only one ranked opponent all year as I would be shocked if LSU is ranked when they meet. - Washington lost 13-7 to Montana at home. WTF? Thank heavens that the PAC 12 had some times show up or this could have been another year of PAC 12 being an afterthought a single weekend. Bad, really bad. - North Carolina looked like they were really slow and not nearly the powerhouse they were last year. It looks like a huge regression. - The Gus Malzahn Experience is off to a good start at Central Florida after they beat Boise State. - Congrats to Steve Sarkisian on his first Texas win against a better than people realize Louisiana-Lafayette. To be honest though, I'm not really interested until they meet up with Oklahoma. - Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder looked pretty darn good, could the Bearcats have a powerhouse offense to go with a good defense? - The Illinois hype wagon is now dead, it was an enjoyable week. They lost to UTSA 37-30, giving UTSA their first win against the Big 10. - In the who really cares category: Presbyterian quarterback Ren Hefley, a former walk-on at Michigan, threw for an FCS record 10 touchdown passes in an 84-43 win over St. Andrews. Injuries: - Oklahoma star WR Theo Wease to miss first half of the season with lower-body injury - Michigan QB Ronnie Bell carted off with leg injury. - Oregon star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux was knocked out of Saturday's win over Fresno State with a left ankle injury. Heisman HypeSome of the early suspects didn't perform well, others shined.
Top 4This is my version, not a prediction of where they will land in polling.
1. Alabama: The machine continues to roll. 2. Ohio State: The talent gap between Ohio State and the rest of the Big 10 is pretty substitutional. It also causes a problem when they meet Alabama in the playoffs and they can't out talent the other team. 3. Georgia: You beat the number three and you move up. That simple. That offense isn't going to cut it against Alabama or Texas A&M in the SEC Championship game. 4. Cincinnati: Played a scrub and buried them like they should. Considering that the rest of their schedule is also scrubs, it looks good for them this year. Down: - Oklahoma: You can't let Tulane get that close when you should have blown them out by at least 21 points. - Clemson: A soft schedule the rest of the year makes the playoffs still an option.
